South Wales Mountaineering Club - 50 Years Old!

The South Wales Mountaineering Club was established in 1960 and aims to encourage interest in mountaineering in all its forms and to bring together like minded people interested in mountaineering. The club's activities range from mountaineering and rock climbing to scrambling and hill walking, catering for all level of experience including total beginners.

With approximately 150 members, we have branches in Cardiff and Swansea who meet regularly to climb indoors and out.

The club organises a number of meets to climbing areas throughout Britain and occasionally further afield. There are also a number of specialist introductory meets organised for those with little or no experience.

Membership is open to anyone aged 18 or over. We are affiliated to the BMC. The club also has a Junior Section.

The club operates regular weekly meets on Wednesday evenings, climbing at local crags during the summer and indoor climbing centres during the winter, and arranges a number of trips further afield throughout the year. Please see the meets page for further details.

50th Anniversary Events

The South Wales Mountaineering Club is 50 years old this year!  To mark the occasion, there are a number of events being organised and we'd like to encourage as many members and ex-members to attend as possible!  If you're interested in attending any of these events, please email swmc@nexusuk.org.  We would also be grateful if all past and present members were able to spread the word about these events to anyone the know who has been involved with the SWMC in the past.  It would be great to see as many familiar (and maybe some unfamiliar) faces as possible to swap tales and adventures about the history of the club - 50 years is quite a remarkable feat!

This is a sport climbing trip, but even if you've never clipped a bolt before, Portland's the ideal place to start.
